Do Not Sell Or Share My Personal Information

This page is for users in California, Virginia, and other jurisdictions where applicable law gives you the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, or to make other privacy rights requests. It is also for EU, UK, and Quebec residents exercising rights under GDPR, Law 25, or other applicable frameworks.

What Ground News Does and Does Not Do With Your Personal Data

We do not sell your personal information.
Ground News does not sell your personal information to third parties for money or any other consideration.

We do not share your personal information with third-party advertisers for their own use.
Ground News does not share your data with third parties so that those third parties can advertise their own products or services to you.

We do use third-party service providers to measure the effectiveness of our ads.
Ground News runs advertisements on third party platforms, such as Meta’s Facebook and Instagram platforms. To measure whether those advertisements are working, we use the Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API (CAPI).  Under this arrangement, we transmit limited transaction data, such as a hashed-email address and a Meta-generated click identifier, to the third party platform, which acts as our service provider for purposes of tracking the effectiveness of our ads and is prohibited from using such data for the third party’s own purposes.  Sharing for this limited purpose with our service providers does not constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for purposes of applicable state privacy laws.    

Rights of California Residents (CPRA / CCPA)

The California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) give California residents the following rights:

  • Right to Know / Access. You may request what personal information we have collected, used, disclosed, and sold about you.

  • Right to Delete. You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions (for example, where we need the data to complete a transaction you have requested, or to comply with a legal obligation).

  • Right to Correct. You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.

  • Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing. You may opt out of the sale of your personal information and the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. See the opt-out mechanism below.

  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information. You may limit our use of your sensitive personal information to that which is necessary to provide the Services.

  • Right to Non-Discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Rights of Virginia Residents (VCDPA)

The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA) gives Virginia residents the right to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of their personal data, and to opt out of the processing of personal data for purposes of targeted advertising and the sale of personal data. Rights of EU and UK Residents (GDPR, UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR including: the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your personal data; the right to restrict or object to processing; and the right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (including consent to advertising conversion measurement via the Meta Conversions API). Rights of Quebec Residents (“Law 25”)

If you are located in Quebec, you have rights under Quebec's Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (as amended by “Law 25”), including the right to access, correct, and receive a portable copy of your personal information, and to withdraw consent to certain uses. Cross-border transfers of your personal information outside Quebec — including to Meta Platforms, Inc. for advertising conversion measurement — are conducted in accordance with our Privacy Impact Assessment obligations under Law 25. Submit a Privacy Rights Request

To exercise any of the rights described on this page, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, please use the dedicated privacy rights request form below. We will confirm receipt of your request and respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (45 days for CPRA; 30 days for VCDPA; one month for GDPR, extendable by two additional months for complex requests).

Requests submitted by email or telephone require identity verification; please include your full name and the email address associated with your Ground News account.

What Happens After You Opt Out

  • Timing. Please allow up to 30 days for your opt-out of sharing to take effect across all of our systems. We will send you a confirmation when your opt-out has been processed.

  • What does not change. Your opt-out of sharing does not affect: our ability to use your personal data to provide the Services you have requested (including your subscription); our ability to share your data with service providers as necessary to operate the Service (such as our payment processor or cloud infrastructure provider); or our ability to retain and use your data for important purposes not related to targeted advertising, such as security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.

  • Subscription transactions. As disclosed in our Privacy Policy, when you complete a subscription purchase, limited transaction data is transmitted to Meta as our service provider to confirm the conversion. This transmission occurs as part of completing your transaction and is not subject to a general sharing opt-out under the service provider exception. 

  • Authorized agents. Only you, or a person you authorize in writing to act on your behalf, may make a privacy rights request on your account. Authorized agents must provide written proof of authorization.

  • Non-discrimination. Exercising your privacy rights will not result in different pricing, service quality, or access to Ground News features.
